Day 31 Hippie Basset

8 1/2 x 11 Scrap Paper

Possibly the most bizarre basset to date.
Crazy magazine scraps cut up.
I particularly like the plates with food for eyes.
Can't believe it has already been a whole month.

Randomly colored basset is all markered up.
A quick coloring task to meet today's posting.
More actual painting tomorrow.

Day 29 M & M Basset

Craft with Candy
This is my Easter M&M's Basset Hound creation.
I am confident in saying that this will be the tastiest
Basset I will do in my 365 Day quest.

I borrowed this idea from another 365er who is doing her journey on "Hands".

Day 28 The Basset Story

8 1/2 x 11 Shaped Writing

This is a story written by my "inner basset".
What better way to display it than to write it in the
shape of a hound.

My early morning Basset Sketch.  Spent lots of time on
trying to get the sadness in the eyes right.

Just a quick sketch for today.

9 x 12
Pencil Sketch

A side view pencil sketch.  I think this came other rather well
with the exception of the ear on the right side.  Enjoying learning
more and more about pencil sketching and blending techniques.

There Once Was A Basset Named Kirby

No Wonder His Nickname is Worby.

Day 21 Blue Basset

9 x 12
Watercolor

My first attempt at a watercolor basset.
Mixed results from my perspective.
Watercolor is much more challenging for someone like
me who doesn't like to wait.

Celebrating Bassets #2

Painting 2 of what I hope will become my Celebrating Bassets Series.

Today's Basset is scowling because he knows that he had six eggs
after the Easter Egg Hunt and now two are missing.

A new spin on the stained glass theme.

Day 18 Beaded Basset

Safety Pin and Bead Craft

Adapted this craft to be a Basset not just a dog.
It didn't turn out quite like I was hoping because the
beads were not uniform in size and therefore it
doesn't lay perfectly but you get the general idea.

Day 17 Did You Call Me?

"Did You Call Me"

9 x 12 Pencil on Sketch Paper

This was a very quick sketch of a full-body basset.
I named this drawing as I did because this is exactly the
look that my bassets give us after they finally decide to listen.

One of the predominate traits of Basset Hounds is that they
can be EXTREMELY stubborn.  They do things on their time
table not their humans schedule.  Yet when they finally do pay
attention they give us the "What?" look.

Day 16 Post-It Basset

Paper and Post-It Notes Craft
While taking a much deserved break at work this idea came to me.
For the record, these are my own personal sticky notes that I used
and not work property.  In fact these were a gift in October for
completing my mammogram.  The reason I used them is that while
they are quite colorful and fun they lack a certain sticky quality
thus making them relatively useless for important notes.

Day 15 Granite Basset

Photography

This might be one of the tougher photographs I have taken.
My little basset friend here is about 1"x 1".
In order to get this photo I had to be down on it's level
(i.e. the ground) to get the perspective correct.
I'm not getting any younger here and let's just say it was quite a feat!

Paper and Stickers Craft

What do you do when you have the silhouette of a basset
and a bunch of "old" stickers that you used when you kids were young?

Of course, you create a cute little Sticker Basset.
I knew you would know the answer.
This would probably have been much easier if it had not
been done by someone who is borderline OCD.

Day 12 My Belated Basset

Photograph
My good friend Oneida bought me a cute little box of chocolates
with this cutie on the lid.  No doubt the candy was AMAZING
but it didn't hold a candle to the picture.

It is IMPOSSIBLE not to look at that face
without saying "Ohhhhhh"!

I had to take a picture of it knowing I would have a use for it someday.
Who knew it would be so soon!

Day 11 Zen Basset 1

Pencil Zentangle Design

A new drawing/doodling technique call Zentangle.
Learned about this from one of my other 365 friends.

It's not just doodling because these little designs all have
patterns and names.  This project required some research.
Thus the number following the title - all that time and energy
means that I will be doing more of these in the future.

Day 10 Stained Glass Basset

"Stained Glass Basset"

9 x 12 Watercolor on Paper

It only seemed appropriate to paint a Stained Glass window
Basset on the beautiful Sunday morning.

Watercolor is a new medium for me and I'm still learning.
This was done mostly using a dry brush technique.

Day 9 Posing Basset

"Posing Basset"

9 x 12 Pencil on Sketch Paper
(I actually only used about 9 x 9 of the sheet)

My second adventure into pencil sketching.
A much easier experience this time.

We continued our studying about drawing on the right side of your brain
in art group this thursday and the importance of viewing a drawing as
a series of shapes and lines versus what the actual drawing makes up.

I felt I was using the right side of my brain and not "over-thinking".
Proud of myself with this little sketch.

Day 8 Peeking Hoover

This is my "boy" Hoover peeking through the doggie door hole.
My crazy boys managed to rip the plastic door completely off.
He just stood there like
"What?  I have no idea what happened!"

Day 7 Pretty In Pink

"Pretty in Pink"
© Lisa Northrup (2013)

Acrylic on Paper Pieced Work
I used excess paint from another project to practice
blending techniques.  I than use the paper canvas to cut out
Pink Pup's silhouette.  The ears and spots were taken from another
section of the canvas so they would stand out against the bacground.

Who doesn't love a Pretty In Pink Pup?

Day 6 Tracker

Posed Photograph

I cannot take credit for creating this little cutie -
his name is "Tracker" and he is more than
happy to fill the challenge for today.
Some incredibly busy days have a way of keeping me from
being able to be "truly creative".

He was a gift to me from a co-worker and he just
lounges around on my computer in my cubicle.

Day 5 Patchwork Basset

Scrapbook Paper Craft

A slightly different take on the basset puzzle.
This basset is made out of a silhoutte cut into random shapes.
Then I cut those shapes out of leftover scrapbook paper.

I think this one looks like it is a girl.

Day 4 Puzzled Dog

Photoscape Edited Photograph

This is an existing photograph I have of Kirby at 4 months old.
Decided to make it today's post rather than a original creation
due to my thumb injury at the shooting range.   More creative
endeavors will follow once the healing is complete.
Isn't he just the most adorable little man?

This is my first acrylic painting for this challenge.
It was GREAT fun to sketch than paint.

Day 2 Haiku Poem

These are my "boys" Hoover and Kirby.
They are my babies and are just over a year old. Having these two is like raising two new children after our human kids left the nest.

Day 1 Pencil Sketch

© Lisa Northrup

My first entry is a pencil sketch.  This was a stretch for me.  Drawing is an area of Art that I have never believed I could do.  This in fact is the second actual sketch that I have ever created.

As a disclaimer, this is not a sketch of one of the "boys" because they clearly would not be unable to pose for a sitting.

Until tomorrow ... Have a GREAT day!
